The Good
Samaritan got the victim to an inn,
they didn't do much more.
Imagine you're pregnant and see this sign on someone's door
in the dorm. Or on the highway. Then at the mall. Then at a
supermarket. At some point you'll probably take down the
number or even talk to someone who displays it.
If you care
about pregnant women and the unborn, that becomes a HUGE
opportunity to be her bridge to the network of people who
are eager to help her do the right and healthy and
beautiful thing.
No longer will those who devalue life (or force unnecessary
choices) be able to claim that we don't care about
women.
The many reasons women resort to abortion boil down to a
seeming conflict between two choices: an intelligent more
secure life vs. going through an imprudent and
disadvantageous pregnancy that puts their life
off-track. The
government has rashly championed the point of view that
this conflict EXISTS and that a choice MUST be made,
leaving women vulnerable to desperate, ill-advised,
unhealthy and regretful actions.
It's not unhealthy because one side declares it to be. At
Candle in the Window, we are simply listening to the
thousands of women who are finally coming out of their
shells of remorse and telling the grim tales of how
devastating abortion has been in their lives. It was no
favor to them!
Today we are in a period of history with the greatest
volunteerism on behalf of women ever seen. Today there are
more resources available to pregnant women than ever
before. In every community there are women and families
that become part of their lives and today are seeing
nearly-aborted kids graduate from high school and college
that were almost never given a chance.
WE'RE ASKING
YOU TO BE A BRIDGE
Now that so many resources exist, it's up to ordinary
people in society to be informed and to link pregnant women
to them. We're not asking you to offer them housing or
other resources yourself, although you might be moved to do
so. We're happy to follow the example of the Good
Samaritan, who only got the wounded person to an inn. They
didn’t do much more.
SHE'S LOOKING FOR A SIGN.
A desperate pregnant woman wants to do the right thing. She
is considering all sorts of possibilities, and looking for
signs that point her in the right direction.
To help her find her way, we've created a sign for people
of good will to hang in their cars and homes, that identify
them as people eager to help. During slavery times, people
like you put a candle in your window at night to tell
runaways that you would help them. We're not even asking
you to be THAT committed, but to at least offer phone
numbers and websites where the young woman can find
long-term help.
BENEFITS OF
POSTING THE SIGN
If you
post the sign, you will be telling pregnant women that you
care and might have help to offer. They will realize that
they do not have to face this difficult time ALONE. If they
are in a crisis we will be able to solve their crisis
without harming their pregnancy.
No longer will politicians and journalists be able to
assert that we "only care about the baby and not about the
woman." We care about BOTH and we need to make that better
known.
Please help us convince the world:
• That abortion hurts women;
• That help is available;
• That pitting a mother's life against her child's life is
a mistake, completely unnecessary and very harmful to
individuals as well as to society;
• That a woman's life is never the same after an
abortion–it affects all her relationships (destructively);
• That adoption is not the worst of all options, but a
joyous and wonderful solution for many, leaving the
birthmother strong, happy, dignified and at peace that she
was able to make this sacrifice;
• That post-abortive healing is possible and begins with
facing up to the reality of what one has done;
• That you do, in fact, CARE.
